Founded in 1988 by Ms. Niosha Nafei, The Niosha Dance Academy has taken great pride in teaching the many wonderful styles of Persian Dance and thereby keeping the rich Persian heritage and traditions alive and flourishing. Ms. Nafei with past and current students consistenly wins numerous awards and dance competitions, and performs regularly in both Persian and multi-cultural dance events throughout the U.S.
In 2002 a seeming tragedy struck as Niosha was unfortunately diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a form of cancer affecting the lymphatic system of the body. Through perseverance, determination and her indomitable spirit, Niosha was able to overcome her illness. The San Francisco Bay Area Iranian community rallied to her support and the ongoing wish and mantra was “You will dance again”.
This video is a testament to the power of the spirit as well as to the power o a community to bring about nothing short of a miracle.
On April 27, 2003 Niosha indeed danced again, as you will see in this wonderful video. Also performing is the beloved Iranian singer Aref who regularly attends the Academy’s performances.
