About the Album:

Nami's music -- an intoxicating blend of New York House, European Trance with English and Farsi vocal talent -- is at the pinnacle and crossroads of modern and traditional dance music. Taking inspiration from classic rhythmic storytelling and a deep understanding of ferocious ethnic beats - Nami has managed to pollinate these and many other sounds into a garden of vibrant musicality. Nami hopes to bridge the gap by expanding a "vision" of sound few have dared to pioneer. Never forgetting his roots, he has paid homage to the music the world regards as the "Persian Sound" by following the rules yet not limiting himself to them. As a new member of the Iranian music culture, Nami hopes to add an innovative, artistic taste to the scene - aspiring to continually create a new musical experience for those that pause to listen.

Interview with Nami conducted by VirtualIran.com:

Q: Please introduce yourself to those who aren’t already familiar with you. How old are you, where were you born, when did you start your music work, etc?

A: My name is Nami and I was born in Tehran and was raised there until I was around the age of 14. At that time, I moved to France and then to the United States. My educational background is in the field of Art and Visual Technology. Currently, I am a Creative Director at a Production Studio. Music has been something that I’ve always turned to while I was sad, happy, angry, or troubled... It has been my fuel for life and has helped me go through difficult times. My parents introduced me to the organ when I was nine years old. I bought my first synthesizer shortly thereafter. I started learning western and Persian classical music with a wonderful teacher named Mr. Kamranpour and then the one of a kind Professor Karapetian in Iran. After moving to the United States I met Kamran Delan, who has been a friend and has been one of the biggest motivators in my life.

Q: Your style is very unique and interesting. You are where no other Persian artist has gone before. Could you tell us why and how you chose this style?

A: My goal was to record an album and to present people with art. The meaning of art to me is creating and bringing something new that has never been done before. Otherwise, it shouldn’t be called art. So, by combining European Trance, New York House, and Traditional Persian Music I have created a style that is well suited for people all around the world.

Q: If you were to name one Persian artist who has influenced your work greatly, who would it be?

A: I personally listen and enjoy the music of all Persian artists. Some I enjoy more than others. If I have to name only one person who has influenced my work greatly it would be Kamran Delan. He is a great Persian lyricist and the creator of numerous hit songs for Andy, Shahrum K, Leila Forouhar and many others. Some of his notable works are "Peyke Navid," "To Ke Rafti," and "Roya" for Andy.

Q: Your album "Lost Generation" has an interesting name. Are you referring to the new generation of young Iranians or did you have other reasons for choosing this name?

A: Different people could have different interpretations of this name. For me it is about our ancient culture, our history and people.

Q: Are you working on anything new? What's next for Nami? When can we see a new album?

A: Lately I’ve been working on Music Videos and Graphics. I think you’ll be seeing more Videos and 3D animation from me soon. The next project is in its research stage and might take sometime to release. Meanwhile, I will be helping my friends with their art publicly.

Q: We thank you for giving us the time to conduct this interview. Do you have any messages for your fans and the youth in Iran?

A: I would like to thank everyone who has supported me and to all the people who have inspired my music. I would also like to thank Virtual Iran for giving me this opportunity to speak my mind. Lastly, I would like to tell everyone to have dreams and goals and to do your best to make them come true and make the best out of your life. I’m living proof that you can accomplish anything once you put your mind to it. Stay focused and strive only for excellence in your goals.
